Who can use fake tan?
Anyone can use fake tan! What does sunless tan contain?
Spray tan and other tans contain Dihydroxyacetone - or DHA - which had fake tanning properties that were first discovered in 1920 in Germany when it spilled on to someone's skin and turned it brown. But it is not just the chemicals in the tan that give you a golden glow. Many fake tan products contain natural ingredients such as cocoa butter, aloe vera and pomegranate.
Where can I apply fake tan?
You can apply fake tan to any part of the body that you want to be bronzed! It is safe to put on the face and some companies make tanning products specifically for the face and neck. Just make sure you remove any excess from between your toes and fingers, as you can get a mahogany build up.
When do I apply fake tan?
Instant tan can be applied as and when you need it, if you're not a regular tanner. Instant can also serve as a top up inbetween gradual tan applications. For spray tans/developing tans it is best to apply it once a week for maximum effect and that way you get to give yourself a pamper session on a regular basis.
How does sunless tan work?
DHA reacts with the amino acids on the very top layer of the epidermis and oxygen in the air to create the brown look on the skin. Fake tan fades as the skin loses dead cells of the epidermis thus removing the fake tan, as you get an entirely new epidermis about every 40 days.
Why should I apply fake tan?
Fake tan is good for giving you a healthy glow and more of an even skin tone. Some people can feel more glamourous and confident after a fake tan application. Many people want to have a nice beach bronzed body and sometimes the way to achieve this is by applying a sunless tan, especially in a climate where we hardly get any sun to sunbathe and it is often freezing outside. Sunbathing and sunbeds also expose the skin to harmful UV rays so it is safer to get your tan out of a bottle.
